Gentle Care for the Whole Family

Gentle Chiropractic Adjustments

Here at Bjork Family Chiropractic we are focused on providing gentle chiropractic care that is safe, effective and comfortable for all members of the family.  Instead of taking a twisting and “cracking” approach to the adjustment, which utilizes high forces in a short period of time.  Dr. Bjork has focused on more gentle techniques which generally use lower forces but are of a longer period of time such as Logan Basic Technique.

Low force adjusting is a gentle, relaxing way for the body to accept the chiropractic adjustment.  For any effective adjustment the chiropractor needs to have an analysis and adjusting protocol which will tell them 5 things:

1)When an adjustment is needed.

2)Exactly which vertebrae needs adjusting.

3)The precise line of drive needed to achieve the correction.

4)The precise amount of force needed to achieve the correction.

5)How long to hold that force as to not “over-shoot” the adjustment.

Two illustration may help show why a gentle approach works.  A motorist’s car runs out of gasoline.  He steps out of the car, walks away for say 15-20 feet, then runs into the car as hard and as fast as he can.  Besides possibly injuring himself, the car likely did not move much.  What was that motorist missing?  He used a lot of force, but the car still did not move?  What could he have done different?  That’s right, he could have gotten directly behind the car, placed his hands on it and slowly started pushing the car straight forward and it likely would have moved for him much easier.

Have you ever been in a boat?  Did you ever have to launch the boat from the dock?  What did you do?  Did you kick the dock from the boat or did you gently push the boat away from the dock?

There are some similarities between chiropractic and having braces on your teeth.  As it takes time to straighten a smile with braces, it also takes time for the body to accept the adjustments and make long term changes.  With both, the best long lasting results usually come from having periodic checkups.
