My story in Chiropractic:

I am the 19th member of my family to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. My grandmother’s brother, was the 1st in our family to become a Chiropractor when he graduated from Palmer in 1929.

I realized that I wanted to become a Chiropractor when I was in high school.  I grew up skateboarding and snowboarding so by the time I got to high school my knees were starting to bother me, but I just did the standard thing at the time and took Advil.  What finally did it was I took a serious fall snowboarding and had a headache after that that wouldn’t fully go away.

After a couple months with headaches my mom brought me to the Chiropractor and I had my 1st adjustment.  I got off the table and my headache was gone.  I knew right then that I had to learn how to do that.  Through the course of my treatments my headaches went away and eventually never came back, and even my knees felt better.

Education:

I attended the University of Wisconsin at River Falls where in 1999 I graduated receiving a Bachelor of Science Liberal Arts degree.  My major was Broad Field Science.  My primary areas of focus were on Chemistry and Biology, and my supporting areas of study were Physics and Geology.  I also enjoyed classes in Psychology and Philosophy.

In 2000 I enrolled at Logan College of Chiropractic.  In 2002 I received a Bachelor of Science Human Biology degree, and then in December of 2003 I received my Doctor of Chiropractic diploma!  During my education at Logan I spent much time focusing on the adjusting techniques, enrolling in elective courses offered on the weekends, and working during lunch periods with the technique clubs.  I was able to learn Logan Basic Technique, Activator Methods, Thompson Technique, Cox Flexion-Distraction, Diversified Technique, and I even studied some soft tissue massage techniques.

The curriculum at Logan is very comprehensive and includes much more than adjusting techniques to complete their mission of preparing its students to become competent primary care physicians.  Students study topics such as: Cell Biology, Histology, Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Radiology, Physical Diagnosis, Laboratory Diagnosis, Neuromusculoskeletal Diagnosis, Differential Diagnosis, Nutrition, Cardiology, Physical Theraputics, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Ob-gyn, Toxicology and more.

Career highlights so far:

In 2004 I started taking steps towards opening Bjork Family Chiropractic.  Along the way I had the privilege of presenting a research project that I had recently completed at the Winter Meeting of the Foundation for the Advancement of Chiropractic Research.  In September all of the work I had been doing finally paid off and I was able to open the doors to Bjork Family Chiropractic.
